About Us

KIDA’s Vision is:
“Empowered people taking care of their own lives.”

KIDA’s Mission is:
“To enable individuals and communities to improve their quality of life through Education, provision of quality and affordable healthcare and promotion of self-help initiatives .”

KITOJO DEVELOPMENT ACTION (KIDA) is a grassroots organization that is empowering Ugandans to prevent the spread of HIV, reclaim their lives from the disease and live a better life.
Reverend Ezra Musobozi, an ordained Anglican priest, and his wife Marjorie, both native Ugandans, founded KIDA in 1999 and currently direct the operations of its programs with a small staff and several volunteers. KIDA is a registered nonprofit, non-governmental organization (NGO) certified in 2001 by the Republic of Uganda.

Our Work

KIDA is located in Kitojo, a rural community with limited access to healthcare services. Our reach, however, extends into many other communities. Some of the challenges our clients and our communities face are HIV/AIDS, poor health and nutrition, poverty, an inadequate food supply, illiteracy and the inability to receive a quality education. But, unlike other organizations, we believe in an integrated and holistic approach to addressing the challenges of the communities we serve. Our programs emphasize personal responsibility and include:

  • HIV education through drama, testing, and counselling
  • An on-site, staffed clinic
  • Access to anti-retroviral therapies and treatment for opportunistic infections
  • A home-care visiting program
  • School support and counselling for vulnerable children
  • Micro-lending and saving, and entrepreneur mentoring
  • Agriculture training and mentoring in organic farming
  • Literacy and job skills training for youth and adults

Geographic Coverage

KIDA is located in Kabarole District in Western Uganda. Our clients come to us primarily from parishes located within three sub-counties: Ruteete Sub-county: Kyamukoka, Rurama, Kiko parishes
Kasenda Sub-county: Kasenda, Nyabweeya, Isuunga parishes
Buheesi Sub-county: Nyamiseke, Kabahango, Kiyombya parishes
In response to KIDA’s monthly radio announcements, people also come from more outlying areas such as Busoro sub-county, Kibiito sub-county, Kahungye sub-county and even from the districts of Kamwenge and Ibanda to access HIV testing and attend positive living seminars.

In an international partnership, KIDA is financially supported by the Friends of Ruwenzori Foundation, a 501c3 US-based nonprofit public charity based in California’s San Fransisco Bay Area.
