EMERGENCY CARE REGAINS HOPE TO SICKLER

Mwesige Donald (not real names) a 30 years old patient was received at KIDA Hospital inpatient ward at 10pm. He was admitted with sickle cells disease, charged emotions and suddenly went into vaso-occulusive crisis. He started desaturating, oxygen circulation was 86% on room air. The patient was quickly put oxygen therapy, vasodilators were given and investigations like complete blood count, grouping and cross matching were done. Haemoglobin levels were at 5.6gld, Donald was transfused, given antibiotics and pain killers.

After 12hours, Donald had greatly improved. He was health educated on precipitating factors leading to sickle cell crisis. On the 5th day of admission, the Doctor recommended Donald for discharge. He appreciated the team that enabled him get back to his feet and wished them God’ blessings.
