THE GENTLE COMMUNITY SAVIOR

It was a Saturday morning when I received an 8years old girl known as Hadijah escorted by her parents. She was unconscious with fever.

The mother explained that Hadijah started feeling unwell like 3days back and while at school and because the school nurse couldn’t manage her sickness, the school administration sent her home.

While at home, her parents bought for her some medicine from a nearby drug shop however her condition wasn’t improving. Two days later the parents decided to bring her to KIDA Hospital.

We took her to the clinical room, we took vitals; Hadijahs’ temperature was 36.2oC, and she couldn’t respond to commands. The clinical officer did examination of Hadijah and requested for securing and putting a cannula to take off blood sample for B/s, TGT, IgG, IGM RBS HB estimation, grouping and cross matching.

The lab results showed that B/s, mps, TGT, Igm IgG reactive, RBS 3,8mmoiil. A treatment plan was drawn. Hadijah was admitted and recommended for close monitoring. IV treatment continued and she was transfused.

The following day, the child had greatly improved. She could sip fluids and could respond to commands.

The Doctor recommended that Hadijah stays on ward for more monitoring and treatment. On the 4th day, Hadijah was discharged. Her parents were advised to give her plenty of fluids, ensure that she always sleeps under a treated bed net, as parents they should desist from self-medication and buying drugs from drug shops unless prescribed by qualified physicians.

The parents of Hadijah appreciated all staff for the good services rendered.

KIDA Hospital continues to save many lives through providing quality and affordable health care services to the rural underserved communities.
