COINCIDENTALY: “IN THE RIGHT PLACE AT THE RIGHT TIME”

Kabaliisa Juliet a medical worker experienced a lot of health challenges during her pregnancy. Despite all the hiccups, she continued to educate, attend, treat and deliver other mothers and provide support to their families.

Kabaliisa remained committed to her until the last few minutes before delivery.The expectant mother become known through other mothers who benefited from cost effective basic emergency obstetric and newborn care (BEmONC), in the presence of a specialized medical team at KIDA Hospital.

While on her duty station, Kabaliisa felt like labor pains that she didn’t take serious until the time when she felt the pain was increasing.  From her duty station she moved to Maternity ward for admission and she was referred to obstetric emergency department.

Upon examination, the midwife was surprised that Kabaliisa was at the end of her ninth month, she was in labor, and she could give birth at any moment. The expectant mother was complaining of headache, the midwife did investigations and found out that her blood pressure.

Other necessary medical tests were carried out on her by the medical staff and treatment begun as she was being monitored for fetal heart and blood pressure.Few hours later, she got serious convulsions, the emergency team called on and responded immediately for an emergency caesarian section. Kabaliisa’s life and her newborn were saved. Later after stabilizing she narrated that she did not know that the day of delivery was too close because her expected date of delivery as per scan report was way too far. She appreciated the almighty and her colleagues for enabling her get hold of a live baby boy.

A good number of women attempt to deliver from home until when the situation worsens. If such a scenario happened far from the hospital, chances are high that both lives would have been lost.
